Ashton Athletic 1 Chorley 1 - Ashton win 5-4 on Penalties

Ashton Athletic pulled off the shock of the night by beating Chorley FC from the Vanarama National League North, 3 divisions above them to reach the Partners Foundation Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy final.

The Yellows took a second half lead thanks to a brilliant goal from captain Paul Watson.
Ashton continued to battle as they did throughout the game and could have easily nicked a second goal. Unfortunately with only 5 minutes left of normal time Jason Walker equalised for Chorley.

A dramatic penalty shoot out followed. The first nine penalties were all top class and gave neither keeper any chance but the tenth saw Martin Pearson save superbly, diving to his left hand side to put the Yellows through to the final. What a result for Ashton reaching this stage for the first time in their history.

The final will be played on the 4th of April at the Macron Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers FC.

A magnificent display from the team echoed by Chairman Jimmy Whyte commenting after the game "So so proud of Ashton Athletic tonight. A fantastic win in the Lancs cup semi. The players were unbelievable and special praise to the management trio of Doug, Jay & Ben #topguys"
