Ashton Athletic 2 Winsford Utd 2

Despite a weather forecast for heavy rain today we seemed to have been spared most of the deluge until kick off that is.
The weather was atrocious and got worse, particularly in the second half. The wind and rain was swirling around making it a very difficult job for both sets of players.
Winsford took the lead early on, only for Danny Smith to equalise minutes later. The game was ruled by the weather and chances were few and far between as both teams struggled to break through. Half time score was 1-1.
The start of the second half was much the same but again Winsford Utd took the lead from a corner, soon after the restart.
Ashton to their credit kept going strong and Ritchie Livingston equalised with a superb left foot strike, beating the keeper in the corner, finishing off a great move.
There only looked like one winner from then on in as Ashton created a number of chances. The strikers broke through on goal several times but just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, much to their frustration. Most notable was a great effort from Adam Gilchrist, lifting the ball over the on coming keeper, but the wind just took the ball the wrong side of the post.
Full Time 2-2. Hard work for both teams in these conditions.
Next game at Brocstedes is Thursday night 19th at 7-45 pm as The Reserves take on Padiham.
