Two tough games against Blackpool and Burnley

Blackpool Girls U14 2 v 0 Ashton Athletic U14 Girls
After two good wins which lifted Ashton into second in the table, they came down to earth with a bump against Blackpool losing 2-0 at their Poulton Le Fylde ground. Blackpool started well, passing the ball around and putting in some dangerous crosses. They created numerous chances and they had Charlotte the Ashton Keeper really busy throughout. Blackpool should have scored when the number eight went through one on one with the keeper. Charlotte stood her ground and made a really good save with her legs. There were no surprises though when Blackpool took the lead. They broke down the right where the winger played a quick one –two, ran into the area and hit a great low pass to the far post where the Blackpool number twelve tapped in. Ashton had a couple of half chances in the first half when the ball bobbed about in the Blackpool penalty area, each time it was safely defended.
HT 1-0.
The second half started with both sides trying to gain control of the play. Blackpool however gained the territorial advantage and only for Charlotte, somehow, making two fantastic saves, Blackpool would have had a much bigger lead. Ashton started to gain a bit of momentum, Hannah shot wide, Scarlett and Emily also putting in good efforts on goal. A great piece of skill on the left hand side of the penalty area by Eleanor. She turned and produced the perfect nutmeg on the defender before hitting a low shot which the Blackpool keeper saved. It was however 2-0 as the Blackpool number eight hit a low shot which went into the net off the inside of the post.
A deserved victory for the home side on a day when Ashton just couldn’t find their rhythm. They tried hard throughout the game but when it’s not your day there is not much you can do.

Burnley U14 Girls 8 v 2 Ashton Athletic U14 Girls

After a two week break because of cup games Ashton travelled to Burnley on Saturday morning for a 10am Kick-off. It turned out to be not one of Ashton’s better days. Burnley were by far the superior team on the day. Their passing and movement were excellent and they created many chances throughout the game. The score was kept down thanks to Charlotte in the Ashton goal who made a number of good saves. It looked as though Ashton would begin to get a foothold in the game when Hannah Chlodek hit a great long range shot that went over the keeper and into the top of the net to equalise. It was to no avail, Burnley stepped on the gas and scored two more to make the half time score 3-1.
The second half began as the first half ended with Burnley in complete control. They soon went further in front with two goals in quick succession. Ashton pulled a goal back through Hannah with a similar goal to her first one, to make it 5-2. Burnley went on to score three more without reply.
A very frustrating day for Ashton Girls who were soundly beaten on the day. I am sure they will put things right in the next match
