The Magic of the Cup starts here!

By Peter Barton

Yellows drawn against familiar faces.

The draws for the Emirates FA Cup and Buildbase FA Vase were made on Friday 7th July and Ashton Athletic will be meeting some familiar faces in both competitions.

In the Buildbase FA Vase, the Yellows received a bye in the First Qualifying Round and will play the victors of the match between NCEL Premier Division Maltby Main and HSL Division One side Cammell Laird 1907.

Ashton Athletic last met Maltby Main in the Emirates FA Cup in the 2015/16 season. The Yellows took the tie to a replay after coming back from behind twice with goals from Callum Mahoney and Aaron Morris but let a 2 goal lead slip in Yorkshire, losing 3-2 with the winning goal coming 7 minutes from time from Brian Cudworth.

The Yellows won 4 points out of 6 against Cammell Laird last season winning 6-0 in Birkenhead and drawing 1-1 at Brocstedes Park.

In the Emirates FA Cup, Ashton were drawn away at HSL Premier League side Squires Gate.

The last 2 games at the Brian Addison Stadium have ended in a stalemate with a 0-0 draw in the 2015/16 season and a 1-1 draw on Boxing Day in the 2016-17 season courtesy of goals from Joel Brownhill and the equaliser from Ben Seear.

The victor will host the winner of the tie against HSL Premier Division side Runcorn Linnets and NCEL Premier Division side Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
