U13 Preston North End V Ashton Athletic U 13 Girls
Full Time 1-1. Match Report by James O'Neill
Ashton Girls set off up the M6 to visit Preston North End on Saturday morning, a good game in prospect with both teams around each other in the table.
The two teams exchanged early pressure without having any clear cut chances. Emily Bourne, playing right wing made a good run which resulted in an early corner, which the goalkeeper collected comfortably. Around 10 minutes in and Preston started building pressure by keeping possession of the ball well. Darcy Bowker made a great saving tackle to stop Preston being in on goal. Charlotte Woodward in the Ashton goal made a good stop low down to again deny Preston the lead. The pressure told on 17 minutes when Preston went 1-0 up. Charlotte made two brilliant saves to keep the ball out of the net but the resulting scramble led to Preston number 7 stabbing the ball across the line.
Most of the pressure in the first half came from Preston and Charlotte made another three really good saves to keep Ashton in the game. In between those saves Ashton had two good efforts from Scarlett McHugh which flew just wide of the post and Emily Bourne who had the Preston keeper Scrambling across her line to keep the ball out.

The second half started with Ashton on the front foot and an early corner came to nothing. Ashton was starting to impose themselves in the game without having a clear cut chance in the first 10 minutes. Scarlett had a good run through the middle and hit a fine shot which the Preston goalkeeper did well to save. A couple of minutes later Hannah Chlodek hit a fierce shot, again the Preston keeper producing a great save. A breakaway from Preston nearly resulted in them going further ahead with a shot from their number 6 going just wide. Ashton thought they had equalised when after some good approach play the ball was fed across the six yard line, Eleanor Westhead turned and hit a crisp volley which looked to be a certain goal but it hit the keeper’s legs and the ball was cleared. The Preston keeper was keeping them in the game it looked like all of Ashton’s efforts would not be rewarded.
With 5 minutes left the ball was played out to Hannah Chlodek on the left wing, she controlled the ball and moved purposefully down the wing going past a couple of defenders. A quick look up Hannah delivered a cracking left foot shot which left the keeper having no chance as the ball sailed high into the far top corner of the net. This was a deserved goal for the effort the team had put in.

All the team did really well and stuck to the task which resulted in them gaining a deserved point. Hannah scored a brilliant goal to earn the point but my Girl of the match goes to Charlotte Woodward who kept Ashton in the game in the first half, with a string of great saves. The Result keeps Ashton 5th in the league.
