Ashton U13's Girls v Crosby

Match report by James O'Neill

Match Report Crosby Juniors V Ashton Athletic Girls U13
Ashton Girls travelled to Crosby Juniors who were one place above them in the table before kick -off. Crosby started the better and it took a good save from Charlotte Woodward to stop the home side from scoring. Crosby kept pressing and their number 10 and number 7 caused all kinds of problems for Ashton, who were initially struggling to get to grips with the pace and organisation of the Crosby side. As the half went on Ashton grew in confidence and became more involved in the game, forcing a couple of corners but without really troubling the Crosby goal. It took another two fine saves from Charlotte to keep the score at 0-0 going in at half time.
HT 0-0
At the start of the second half Ashton stepped up a gear and started to threaten the Crosby goal. Emily Bourne and Tegan Bibby combined well which resulted in a corner to Ashton but the Crosby keeper collected the incoming cross. It was end to end at the mid-way point of the half with little to choose between the sides. Emily had two good efforts on goal, one from the centre of the goal, where she forced a shot away which the Crosby keeper punched out with both hands. The second was a run down the right where she flashed a shot across the six yard box, evading both the Ashton attack and Crosby defenders. At the other end Crosby number 10 had a good run and a shot which Charlotte guided to safety with her legs.
FT 0-0
Ashton were much better in the second half than the first and with a bit more luck could have come away with all three points. A gritty performance from the girls who dug deep and battled hard against a well organised and experienced side. The Ashton defence performed well again with Darcy Bowker commanding the defence at centre back and having her usual quality game. Abbey Watkinson did well making some timely interceptions. Olivia Riley came on for the second half and did well showing a lot of determination in her tackles. This was a good result again for the second week running, with Ashton holding their own against a team above them. Once again all the girls did well and stuck to their task and my Girl of the Match goes to Charlotte Woodward for a great first half performance in goal.
