A hard fought FA Vase cup tie down at Brocstedes Park saw no team take control. Ashton started off really well with Atherton Colls hardly getting out of their half in the first 15 minutes. The longer the game went on thou, the more the visitors came into the game.
There were long periods of the game with no-one on top and it was a bit of a stalemate. The pace of the game was rapid and always looked like one goal would win it. Unfortunately that goal just wouldn't come for either team. In fact the best chances fell to Atherton towards the end of the game but thanks to Martin Pearson for some great saves it could have been all over. Another stalwart was Ian Rowlands at the centre of Ashton's defence who was absolutely superb throughout.
Even extra time couldn't separate the teams, but we get to do it all again tomorrow night, Monday 7th Sept with a 7-45 pm kick off.
Finally thanks to all the Ashton Athletic sponsors who came to the game and the excellent crowd on the day...
