Super Subs Secure Win!

Maine Road made the journey to Brocstedes looking to avenge last seasons cup final result which saw the Yellows lift the cup after a hard fought 1-0 win.Its been all change since that day with a new manager Lee Bennett replacing Chris Thomas and majority of new players arriving at the Brantingham Road outfit.

New midweek signings Paul Atherton and Nathan Martland started on the bench. Jamie Harrison replaced Sam Bailey in cm, Sam taking a mid season break to get married abroad.

Maine Road settled well and looked to get there passing game going on a perfect playing surface. At times they over played and nearly cost them a goal when Mike Downing and Danny Regan closed the defence down but after winning possession the chance was wasted. Some good passing from the Yellows saw Danny Regan break down the right flank, his crossed made it towards the back post were Dean Midgeley smashed the ball goal wards but the keeper did well to tip the ball over. The game turned into a midfield battle with a few half chances for both sides but neither keeper tested.

HT 0-0

Another disastrous start to a half resulted in Maine Road taking the lead. Poor defending and lack of communication saw players standing off the Maine Road winger who pulled the ball back to Danny Hulme who finished into the bottom right hand corner. The Yellows then made a double substitution on 52 minutes Atherton and Martland replacing Downing and Small. 3 minutes later the tactic paid off, Adam Howard whipped in a corner and paul Atherton rose highest to flick the ball past the keeper and defender on the line. The new pairing up front added energy and worked hard to press Maine Road and force mistakes. On 71 minutes Martland marked his debut with the second goal. Jamie Harrison picked out Martland with pin point accuracy and he powerfully beat the keeper with a bullet header. maine Road made a couple of substitutions but it was Ashton who put the result beyond doubt on 83 minutes. Regan who caused problems all day on the wing played a lovely one two with Chris Webster before crossing to Atherton at the back post who fired a great half volley into the roof of the net.

FT 3-1

A great result coming from a goal behind showing desire, commitment and work rate to push the club into 4th position of the league.
