Ashton went into the game after a hard fought draw away at Congleton on Saturday, The management made 3 changes to the side that started the previous game, Ryan Small and Adam Gilchrist were preferred upfront instead of Martland and Downing whilst Ben Kay was recalled to the satring eleven for the injured Martyn Jackson.
The home side had the perfect start when skipper Ian Rowlands towered over the oppostion as he converted a Sam Bailey corner.
Gate had their best chance of the game when the dangerous Sowerby had his shot well saved by the (sparrow) legs of Foulds, Bailey and Gilchrist should of doubled the Yellows lead but were wasteful with their efforts. It was not until the 40th minute that the home side went 2 up and what a goal it was, good work on the right led to a low cross from Edwards who found Ben Kay on the edge of the box, somehow facing 90degrees from the goal he managed to send a thunderous shot into the top corner leaving the Gate keeper with absolutley no chance, which prompted whispers of 'goal of the season'.
Ht 2-0
The second half started as the first finished with the home side totally dominating in all areas, it only took 10 second half minutes for Ashton to double their lead, Sam Bailey scored direct from a corner on 53minutes for the second game running, then on 54 minutes, a strong pass back led to the oppostion keeper to have a strong touch that Gilchrist pounced on and cooley placed tge ball into a empty net.
Further chances fell to Small, Casey and Martland but the home side could not convert any and were left to settle with just the 4 goals.
