A comfortable win in the end for the 1st team tonight against the visitors from Manchester.
The first goal came from a foul as Ashton broke down the left hand side. The resulting free kick hit to the back post saw Luke Holden completely unmarked rise up and finish easily, heading past the diving keeper.
1-0 Ashton and it remained that until half time thanks to an excellent save by Martin Pearson just before the break.
After the interval the game began in much the same way as the first half, again evenly matched, but the West Didsbury players seemed to get frustrated and lost a bit of discipline. A succession of fouls saw 2 yellow cards and a red, the latter for the No. 8, for what looked like dissent. The ref having had enough for the continued back chat by the player, while Ashton waited to take a free kick.
Now with the clear advantage it wasn't long before Ashton began to dominate. A break down the right put Isaac Kusaloka in and he smashed the ball past the keeper, 2-0!
Two more good efforts could have added to the score, one from Ryan Small that hit the post with a curling left foot shot, or was it a cross?
And towards the end, Ben Kay turning back the clock, got well forward from his holding midfield position and slammed a terrific shot goalward but the keeper got down well and just tipped the ball round the post.
As full time approached Adam Howard got himself on the score sheet The goal was an excellent left footed finish and well deserved after giving a tireless display up and down the wing.
There was hardly time for the restart as the ref blew for full time. A much needed 3 points and an excellent performance from The Yellows...
