Congleton Town 0-2 Ashton Athletic

Ashton came into the game after a disappointing defeat last time out when they where easily beaten at home to Maine Road. The trio made just one change bringing Danny Smith into the starting line up for the injured Dean Midgley.
The Yellows started of brightly without really troubling the home keeper, shots from Watson and Brownhill where way off the target while Pearson in the Ashton goal was rarely called into any action against his former club.
The deadlock was broken when Ashton pressed hard and stole the ball from the Bears midfield, releasing the lively Smith down the right whose cross was destined for a Robinson tap in when a out stretched leg from Bayley sent the ball past his own keeper to send Ashton in at half time 1 up.
Congelton had a change of formation at the start of the half and had the best of the opening exchanges,again without really troubling Pearsom who was solid throughout. The defence was being well marshalled by Holden and Rowlands who kept the dangerous Fletcher quiet all afternoon.
The second goal came from a corner, in swinging from Smith who picked out skipper Rowlands who left the home keeper with no chance as his close range header. Bookings for Brownhill and Kay where to follow as the Yellows saw out the game with ease.
A hard working display from Ashton on a difficult pitch and against a team who haven't been defeated in the league at home, attentions now turn to Tuesday when we travel to AFC Fylde in the Lancs Cup
