Ashton found themselves behind as early as the 5th minute when a long punt downfield caused a bit of hesitation by goalkeeper Chris Brinksman allowing the Alsager forward to get to the ball first and score the opener. From then on it was mostly all Ashton as they searched for the equaliser, but were unable to force the breakthrough as Alsager seen out the half 1-0 to the good.
The second half resumed with the yellows well on top and got a deserved equaliser through Martyn Jackson, from then on it seemed that there was to be only one winner. Then the game turned on it's head as first Danny Thomas seen a goal chalked off by the referee because is linesman was not stood in the correct position, even though not one Alsager player claimed to have the goal wiped out. The same player then hit the crossbar with an overhead kick and from the resulting long ball down field came Alsager second goal with the forward looking yards off-side he got to the ball first and is first time cross was headed into the goal to make it 2-1 to Alsager.
Ashton pressed for an equaliser and got caught on the break again to make the score 3-1 and the with the last kick off the game a blatent Hand Ball and a shot in to the top corner to make it 4-1.
