Ashton Athletic FC went down again, this time against a very poor Norton United side and can have no one to blame but themselves.
Playing against a strong wind Ashton were looking very comfortable and created most of the chances with the returning Mark Bailey and Skipper Ryan Stewart both coming close for the host's, but with a Ashton player lying injured in is own penalty box and technically playing everyone on side the game changed for the worse. The linesman who was trying to make the referee aware of the injury failed to wave is flag sufficently and the referee and Norton United played on and with Rob Flint playing everyone on side the away side cashed in and scored the opening goal. In all honesty Norton should have put the ball out of play and showed some sportsmanship. HT 0-1
The second half started brightly for the home side, but after 10 minutes Rob Flint committed a foul that earned him a booking and he responded with a foul mouthed rant at the referee who had no option but to send him off the field of play. This gave Ashton a mountain to climb of which they did in heroic style, but the ten men got caught on the break in there search of an equaliser with the final whistle blowing just after the goal. FT 0-2
