Sloppy play in the first half cost the injury ravaged yellow any chance of taking anything from the game and allowed Winsford to complete a league double over Ashton Athletic.
Paul Casey tried to pinch the ball on the half way line from the speedy Matthews who turned him and then out run him down the left flank he then put in a cross that the helpless Jay Waldron could only turn into his own goal leaving keeper Dave Moran flat footed as he could only watch the ball fly in to the net.
The yellows slowly got into the game but fell for a sucker punch when Paul casey took a throw in on the half way line and Lee Hodgkinson miscontrolled the ball allowing McGongile a clear run at goal and the striker did not waste the oppotunity to make it two nil on 40 minutes.
The second half started brightly for Ashton and they should have pulled goals back when Joe Fielding sent in two superb free kicks but the on rushing strikers could not get a touch to the ball.
The game ended on a bad note for Joe Fielding who came off injured with badly damaged ankle ligaments.
