for the first 25 minutes of the game you could not seperate the two teams with the Yellows playing some great free flowing football without really looking to pose a real threat on the Bootle goal.
The game however changed on the 25 minute mark when Mark Rogers scored a really unlucky own goal, the bootle striker miscued his shot and it hit the yellows skipper flush in the face sending the ball passed the stranded Dave Moran in the yellows goal to give Bootle a somewhat fortunate lead. The yellows almost responded instantly when Danny Smith was brought down in the penalty area for what looked a certain penalty only for the official to wave the appeal away. then with half time approaching Bootle were awarded a soft free kick on the edge of the box that the Ashton backline never really cleared, Dave Moran made a smart save only for the ball to fall straight to Thomas Foley who lashed it into the net to give Bootle a 2-0 lead.
HT 0-2
The second half got underway with half chances at each end before a break down the bootle left resulted in Kevin Townson heading home and effectivly ending the game as a contest. Bootle seemed to take there foot of the gas allowing Ashton to have some attacking joy but again without troubling the Bootle custodian. One attack late in the game resulted in Callum Jones being penalised for bringing down a Bootle player who actually tood on the ball, the official did however admitt his mistake later. but the penalty was taken by Kevin Towson and saved by the excellent Dave Moran in the Yellows goal, making that 5 penalty saves on the run. the final action of the game saw Justin Yun's excellent free kick leave the goal keeper flat footed only to strike the upright and away to safety.
FT 0-3
The lads need to re-group and put this game to bed, Bootle are a good side that will more than likely go on to win the league.
