Athletic record their seventh straight win against a resilient Stockport Sports side at a sun drenched Stockport Sports Village.

Both sides entered the game in confident mood after midweek victories so it was inevitable that they would look to cancel each other out in the early stages of the game.

The games' early chance fell to the Stockport number eight who, after good work down the left, struck an excellent volley that stung the hands of 'Keeper Foulds but was pushed away to safety.

Athletic failed to get to grips with the artificial surface in the early stages and were wasteful in possession, looking to get the ball forward too early. However, on twenty-six minutes, they found their passing game and an excellent move down the left, orchestrated by Adam Howard and Michael Downing, found Richie Livingston in the box. His effort was saved well by the home 'Keeper.

The best chance of the half came to Dean Midgley who was played in by a Michael Downing flick. The new signing gathered the ball but his weak, attempted chip was easily gathered by the Stockport stopper.

Whatever was said by the management trio at half time seemed to work as The Yellows came out with a much renewed energy and vigour. Passing the ball with much more accuracy they calved open the home defence.

Richie Livingston collected the ball, beating two players before passing to Michael Downing. His reverse pass played Livingston back in who had continued his run. With the hard working winger bearing down on goal he made no mistake slotting under the advancing 'Keeper.

Athletic really came alive now and other than a few chances for the home side that were snuffed out by the excellent Ian Rowlands and Luke Holden they dominated the game.

Ben Kay, returning to his more familiar role of Central midfield after his midweek goal scoring exploits in attack at Silsden was running proceedings and it was no surprise when his pinpoint pass found substitute Dean Callaway to extend the away sides lead. Callaway's shot was well saved by the Stockport 'Keeper who could only watch as the ball fall to Sam Bailey who cooly slotted into the empty net.

Athletic were enjoying lots of possession now and created further chances that should have been taken to further extend their lead however, last ditch defending from the home side kept the score at 2-0.

It was not until the 89th minute that The Yellows found their third goal. The returning Adam Howard provided an excellent cross for Richie Livingston to powerfully head home at the front post.

Another fantastic performance by Athletic who have now surpassed the club's record points tally for a season and also the number of clean sheets kept in a season. This is testament to the hard work everyone in the squad had put in throughout the season.

MOM: Ian Rowlands. An excellent day at the heart of The Yellows defence. Unpassable!

On Bank Holiday Monday we visit St Helens Town for an away home game at Brocstedes Park! Both sides will be looking to finish their season on a high as the final few games of league action are played out this week.

The future's bright, the future's Yellow. COYY!
