Ashton travelled to North Yorkshire to take on Silsden, with a depleted squad due to injuries and work commitments the Yellows were forced into changes once again, Reece Broadhurst was given a start in the engine room while Ben Kay was moved up top to try and hold the ball up, Dougie Pitts was named as the only fit player on the bench as the other Louis Edwards was stil struggling with a hamstring problem.
The first half was a 45 minutes of few chances as both sides struggled to get the ball down on what was a typical end of season pitch, Jay Foulds was not called into any action in the first half, the only effort Athletic could manage was a cross come shot from right back and skipper Mike Wood who rattled the crossbar.
HT 0-0
The second half was only six minutes old when the Yellows broke the deadlock, the ball was played out wide to Mike Wood who put in a superb cross which found the head of Kay who towered above the much taller centre half to send the ball flying into the corner to put the away side one up.
Foulds was called into action on 65 minutes when a corner was only half cleared which left the Silsden number 3 in acres of space, his shot heading for the corner was turned away superbly from the Ashton number 1.
The last 10 minutes saw the home side to start applying more pressure but fortunately for the Yellows they were marshaled well by the two centre halfs Holden and Rowlands (Adams and Keown ).
Ashton held on for the final minutes of the game to take a well deserved 3 points which now sees them at the top of the form table and with only 1 loss in 14 matches gives them huge confidence going into Saturday's game when we travel to Stocksport Sports.
Luke Holden won the MOM award.
