Goals from Midgeley and Wilson end West Didsbury's 100% Record.

The Yellows travelled to inform West Didsbury in search of their first win of the season. West had started the new campaign with a 4-1 victory over Barnoldswick and followed it up with a 3-0 victory at home over Winsford.
After the midweek 1-1 draw at AFC Liverpool the management were looking for a 90 minute performance instead of a 45 minute performance from the previous two games.
A couple of changes to the midweek result saw Andy Mawdsley start at right back with Louis Edwards move to centre back. Joint manager Ben Kay moved back into his regular role of centre midfield with young Chris Mather making his full debut on the right wing. Chris is a young local lad who was released from Wigan Athletic last season and has just recovered from a leg break which has kept him out the game for 10 months.
A tentative start from both sides saw little note worthy action, Ashton then upped the tempo and should have took the lead when good closing down saw the ball break through to Mike Downing. With a clear run on goal the young striker took his shot early forcing the keeper to flick wide of the post. It wasn’t long before Ashton was on the attack this times an easier chance, Adam Storey wriggled free but took long to cross to an unmarked Mike Downing and the chance was gone. The final chance of some sustained pressure saw the impressive Storey break down the left and pull back to Mather but his shot lacked power and was cleared in the 6 yard box by a defender. West then fights back and should have scored the opening goal of the game. A lack of communication from the back four led to a half clearance, the resulting ball forward saw West striker Malkin run into the box and upended by Rowlands leaving the referee no option but point to the spot. Up stepped MOM Danny Lever who dove to his right to expertly save the spot kick and scramble to collect the ball at the second attempt.

HT 0-0

If Lever kept his side in the game at the end of the first half he more or less won the game for the Yellows at the start of the second. Less than 60 seconds had passed when West pressed forward, and should have opened the scoring. As the ball was worked well down the right a low cross found a West striker who from 6 yards looked certain to score but Lever spread himself well to block the attempt. As the ball rebounded the young keeper spread himself to block the follow up ala Peter Schemicheal. This seemed to give his team mates the confidence to push on and win the game. A nasty challenge on 57 minutes gave the Yellows the opportunity to get a cross into the box. Midfield maestro Jamie Harrison floated an inch perfect cross into the box to meet the perfectly timed head of Dean Midgeley who flicked the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. The game seemed to peter out for the next 20 minutes as the yellows controlled proceedings frustrating Didsbury. The introduction of small, Wilson and Callaway added fresh legs and gave the Yellows a lift that was needed. With West pushing for the equaliser the inevitable happened. A quick break saw Harrison run through with a 2v1 situation, a quick glance up saw Wilson central and the striker
made no mistake opening his account for his new club.

FT 0-2

Not a vintage game for the supporters but character and determination saw a well earned 3 points return to Brocstedes and keep the Yellows unbeaten and end West Didsburys 100% record.
MOM went to Danny Lever who built the platform for the team to gain the win.
