First Win Of Season

Double Strike From Gilchrist

Good early pace to the game as it settled into a midfield battle,Watson, Fernavs, and Harrison winning the early exchanges, this was proved as the first real chance from Kyle Ross cutting in from the left and testing the keeper, then after 15 mins a lovely weighted thru ball from Jamie Harrison found Adam Gilchrist who chipped the the keeper with the outside of his right foot
1-0 yellows.
Then after 17 mins another great chance after lovely work from Watson and Rochford resulted in wonderful ball in which Hale just failed to convert at the back post. Just a minute later Hale again cut in from the right and this time brought a great save from the away keepr. From the resulting corner a great chance fell to Watson who somehow blazed over from 6 yards. the game then settled into a nice even contest until the 30th min when good work again from Gilchrist which the keeper saved but well followed in from Ross who converted from 2 yards.
2-0 yellows.
this second goal seemed to wake Stalybridge up and a great save from Loughlin in the yellows goal kept the score at 2-0, we were under the first bit of sustained pressure but our back 4 well organised by Kenny Dixon and Luke Holden were standing firm, then leading up to half time Loughlin was called into action again saving full length down to his left hand side, from this save a lovely move from the yellows midfield found Gilchrist in bags of space who calmly slotted home in a 1 on 1 to send us in 3-0 at half time.
H.T.3-0 Yellows.

As expected Stalybridge come out at a great pace and put us under pressure hitting the bar with a great strike from fully 18 yards, we then went down the other end and were denied a 4th goal again good work from Hale forcing the keeper into a great save, the yellows were looking to kill the game off and Gilchrist wasted 2 guilt edged chances. then from 65 mins the away team took control of possession but were struggling to break down a stubborn yellow back 4. until the 80th min when the pressure told a great cross from the left found the Stalybridge striker unmarked and he finished well with a looping header.
3-1 Yellows.
The game was petering out until the lively right back of the away team went on a great run and beat 3 players and hit a lovely cool shot from just inside the Ashton box but unluckily it rebounded off the post to safety. A great solid performance from the Ashton lads took us to 3 points.

M.O.M. P Loughlin, after being under the spot light as keepers are at times he responded with a great solid performance.
