We travelled to Curzon on Monday night the lads still on a high after lasts weeks performance, the setting was nothing short of perfect the pitch would grace any occasion. With some forced changes giving lads game time we were all looking forward to the game.
Curzon come flying out the blocks and to be fair we never got to grips with pace they set, Ken Dixon, Paul Watson and skipper Dave Norbury were all settling into a great early battle with the midfield of our hosts, who created the first real chance forcing Paddy Loughlin into a smart early save, With the yellows struggling to get grips with the Curzon wide men, the pressure told after 10 mins a lovely passing move started from the Curzon right back, Kyle Ross switched off the ball was moved swiftly forward and with men committed forward a smart low finish made the score 1-0.
This seemed to settle us down and we started to knock the ball about a lot better but were lacking that vital cutting edge we normally have, Curzon looking dangerous on the break and then with the game settled Lee Fernavs trying a long pass gave the ball to the home team who took full advantage of the mistake and a nice finish made the game 2-0.
We emerged from the dressing room after half time and took the game to Curzon then from our attack yet more wasteful play left us exposed at the back and Matty Rochford left his mark on the home teams forward with a crunching tackle on halfway and a deserved yellow card, The yellows to our credit were stringing passes together and getting a good foot hold in the game and were penning the home back, but we had to be aware of the danger that both wide players Curzon showed. The only real threat from us was when we had a goal disallowed which the linesman flagged for offside only to realise that the home team had a man on the line the ref then said he was flagging for a corner!!!
All in all we never turned up for the game and was very disappointed because on a great night for football and an amazing set up Ashton never showed our football ability, and we must learn that consistency and playing for the full 90 mins is vital.
