Ashton Development squad's convincing win
Ashton Athletic 6 AFC Darwen 1
Another very cold Thursday evening at Brocstedes Park saw the Development squad take on Darwen in the Lancs League West.
Ashton were on the front foot right from the start with many of the early exchanges taking part in the Darwen half.
The first goal was scored by the impressive Corey Harrison cutting in from the left hand side, soon to be followed by captain Paul Watson's strike.
The chances flowed but Darwen got themselves back in the game from what looked like a defensive error to make it 2-1. Ashton took the set back in their stride and continued to play with quality.
Just before half time a thunderous strike from centre back Aaron Cringle almost broke the net as the ball flew into the top corner making it 3 goals to 1. Indeed the score line could have been higher as the woodwork took a battering.
In the second half Ashton continued where they left off despite the sub zero temperature and another top quality goal from a centre back, as Luke Holden's overhead kick (think Andy Carroll for West Ham only better!) sailed into the back of the net, giving the Darwen keeper no chance and making the scoreline 4-1.
Brad Aspinall got himself on the score sheet to make it 5-1, capping an excellent display in midfield.
Finally Corey Harrison made it 6 with his second of the game to finish off a brilliant team goal.
A fine way to spend a Thursday evening despite the weather conditions.
Next Games up...
