Good Start To The Season Halted!

The yellows entertain Curzon Ashton at Brocstedes Park today, on the back of a great win against Warrington Youth. Ashton start of quiet lively, winning a corner on the left side, taken by Rivan Fisher floated in, but the keeper claims the ball. Shortly after that, on the third minute Ashton get there first shot away with Calum Mclaughlan firing the ball straight at the keeper. Rivan picks the ball up in the middle of the park, spreads the play to Rob Newcombe who crosses the ball, but out for a goal kick.

Curzon get the first play of the game with a free kick, but dealt with by the Ashton defence and the ball is headed away by Dylan Martin. GOAL!! On the 7th minute the yellows get what they deserve for all the early pressure, with Calum crossing the ball and a mix up by the Curzon defence, allows Brad Green to slot the ball home 1-0 Ashton. But the lead wasn’t to last as the away team we’re awarded a penalty on the 9th minute. Adam Kenyon brought the Curzon player down from behind. Great save by the keeper Keane Stanley down to his left hand side, but the rebound was slotted home with no one reacting from the home side GOAL! 1-1 game on.

Ashton react quickly with rob twisting & turning in the box to win a corner. The balls floated into the back post with Brad just missing it. Curzon attack on the 13th minute, but Keane is quick of his line a great save but the ball goes through towards goal, but for Adam Kenyon gets back in time to clear the ball off the line. Free kick awarded to Curzon for a push in the back, cleared By James Burns a strike by Curzon’s number 7 but edges just wide of the post. The number 7 seems to be there main line of attack on the right hand side, as he crosses the ball in but cleared in touch for a throwing. A booking for Brad and the full back, which was nothing only handbags, but if the ref had applied the letter of the law it could have been different.

A great piece of play down the right flank on 31 minutes, between Conal Cunningham, Matty Blakeley & Rob Newcombe see’s the ball in the back of the net, by Brad only to be ruled out for offside. Slack defending by the home side allows the number 7 to break to put the Curzon number 9 in. GOAL! 2-1 Curzon. Free kick awarded to Ashton 18 yards out, Jack Hurst wraps his foot around it, but a great save by the keeper. For the second week running Matty Blakeley is denied a stone wall penalty when he’s brought down in the box by two Curzon players, Ashton should feel hard done by going in at the break 2-1 down

HALF TIME

The second half get under way, with Rob Newcombe getting his shot off which is deflected wide. Rivan crosses the ball into Calum who heads the ball wide for a goal kick. Free kick awarded to Ashton which but it was a poor delivery, straight at the Curzon defence.

With nothing much to write home about in the early stages of the second half, it wasn’t until the 65th minute when Rob picked the ball, up passed it to Rivan who set up Calum Mclaughlan to fire into to the top corner from 20 yards out GOAL! 2-2.

On 70th minute a second penalty was awarded to the away side, it was a tackle by Rivan who actually looked like he had won the ball. In my opinion it seemed to be a soft decision, which led to Jack Hurst being booked for decent. Curzon calmly slot the penalty home GOAL! 3-2 Curzon.

Substitution Nathan Collier ON James Burns off

A costly mistake between Adam Kenyon and Jack Hurst lead to a goal on the 77th minute. The striker with no hesitation slots the ball home with a calm finish. GOAL! 4-2 Curzon. A great piece of play by Brad to put the sub Nathan Collier through on goal nearly finishes with a great strike, but the ball edges just wide of the post.

Substitutions Tom Casey Dylan Rees Conor Wild ON Calum Mclaughlan Brad Green Adam Kenyon OFF

With very little time left and the clock running down, the substitution had very little effect in the game. Ashton tried to pile on the pressure in the late stages of the game, but they just couldn’t break down the solid Curzon defence.

With the full time whistle blown and the game ending 4-2 Curzon, a very disappointed looking Matty O’Hara heads to the changing rooms.

Thanks again to John Mclaughlan for the report.
