Young Yellows Comeback To Win

After beating Wrexham 2-0 in the FA Youth Cup at the Racecourse, the boys were back down to earth playing at Slyne With Hest FC ground/cow field against Morecambe. We were joined today by new coach Ste O’Hara. Who put the boys through there paces with a great warm up session.

Ashton making no little than 5 changes from the Wrexham game, started the game poorly as Morecambe set there stall out early and capitalised on a defensive mistake as early as 3 minutes into the game Ashton 1-0 down.

On 15 minutes Morecambe came on the attack again another poor defensive mistake allowed the home side to take a 2-0 lead, 9 minutes later Ashton got there first goal, when Dylan Martin pinched the Morecambe players pocket and spread the ball out wide to Kieran Curtis, who then took on the full back and get his shot away, only for the keeper to fumble the ball into Calum Mclaughlans path who taps the ball home from 3 yards out 2-1

Ashton go on the attack again with Kieran playing the ball into Calum Mclaughlans feet who slots the ball past the keeper with his left foot 2-2, Calum and Kirean were in the thick of the action again with Calum smashing a ball at the keeper who does really well to make the save, corner to Ashton.

Keiran takes the corner left footed from the right hand side straight across the goal to Rivan Fisher who knees the ball into the back of the net. 2-3 Ashton

Morecambe win a freekick late on in the first half, but it is wasted and well over the bar. Ashton go in to the dressing rooms 3-2 up.

Ashton started the second half like the start of the first and conceded as early as the 47th minute , when Morecambe’s number 10 fired the ball past Keane and in off the post. 3-3

Straight after the restart Ashton win a corner and score a bizarre goal with a great delivery from Kieran to the back post Matty Blakeley heads the ball onto the post with power and rebounds into the back of the net of a Morecambe player. 3-4

Dylan Martin gets his shot away after a great run but the keeper is equal to it and parrys the ball away. A pretty scrappy second half in all fairness until Rivan with his quick feet played a ball to Matty who rifles his shot onto the crossbar really unlucky not to score.

In the dying minutes Conal Cunningham misplaces his pass, and Morecambe were on the break but Keane finished the game off with a fine save and Ashton held on to win the game 4-3.
