Under 18s Youth Team v PRESCOT CABLES
Tough test for the Young Yellows
Prescot Cables were the visitors to Brocstedes Park as the Young Yellows were looking to keep their 100% start to the season. Sadly were weren't able to do that as we came up against a very strong and well organised side.
The game was evenly matched but unlike last week, we didn't seem at our best, playing at a slower tempo than usual. The reason being Prescot didn't press us high up the pitch, happy to keep their shape, wait for us to try and break them down, then hit us on the break.
The tactics worked as they scored their two goals in the first half. One by us losing the ball high up the pitch. The other from a corner which we failed to put in an effective challenge.
Our best chance saw us hit the cross bar and the resulting goal mouth scramble saw Prescot clear. Nothing seemed to be falling our way.
The second half we competed much better but luck and decisions were not on our side. One incident sums the afternoon up. The linesman flagged for a foul against us in the penalty box, in what seemed like an age for the ref to see him, he then stopped play, went to speak to his assistant and bizarrely didn't award the penalty but instead rolled the ball back to the Prescot keeper and told him to play on. A very strange decision to say the least!
We continued to battle hard but never really looked like scoring. Fortunately we have plenty more opportunities to come to put things right.
Next game is Sunday 6th of September away to Warrington Town 2:30 pm kick off.
Thanks to Sharon Lawrence for the great photographs of the game.
