**Match Report: North West Counties Division One North**
Ashton Athletic continued their impressive run of form with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a determined Steeton side at Brocstedes Park. Despite the league positions, this was always going to be a tough encounter, as Steeton came into the game on the back of some strong performances, including a narrow 1-0 loss at Atherton LR last week.
From the first whistle, Steeton took the initiative and looked the more dangerous of the two sides in the opening exchanges. Ashton’s goalkeeper, Joe Beswick, was called into action early and often, pulling off several fine saves and commanding his area superbly, punching away dangerous crosses and corners with authority.
The defensive unit also shone brightly, with Cal Wilson and Ethan Pearce forming a rock-solid partnership at the back. Full-backs Conal Larkin and Reece Carrington were tireless in their efforts, working hard to keep the lively Steeton forwards at bay. Mention must also go to new signing Nathan Whalley, who came on in the second half and contributed to the defensive resilience that defined Ashton’s performance.
Despite being on the back foot for much of the first 20 minutes, Ashton struck the opener against the run of play in the 22nd minute. A moment of brilliance from striker Dek Hill saw him rifle a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner, leaving the Steeton keeper with no chance. The goal seemed to settle Ashton, who began to grow into the game but couldn't extend their lead before the break. **Half-time: Ashton Athletic 1-0 Steeton**.
The second half started perfectly for the Yellows. Just minutes after the restart, the electrifying Emmanuel Ujahchuku powered down the right flank, his pace proving too much for Steeton's full-back. From the far corner, Ujahchuku whipped in a pinpoint cross that found the onrushing Dek Hill, who finished clinically to bag his second of the match. **2-0 to Ashton**.
Credit must go to Steeton, who refused to let their heads drop and continued to press Ashton, creating chances of their own throughout the half. The visitors were finally rewarded in the 87th minute when Ethan Parker-Hudson pulled one back, giving Steeton hope of salvaging a point.
The final few minutes were tense, as Steeton piled forward, sensing an equaliser. With the referee adding considerable stoppage time, the visitors came close to levelling the score, but Ashton’s defence stood firm. When the final whistle blew, the relief was palpable among the home crowd, who cheered their team off the pitch after a battling performance.
Player of the Match was undoubtedly **Dek Hill**, whose two goals and tireless work rate were crucial in securing the win. Special thanks to **Gav Hanson of Hanson Property Services**, who is sponsoring Hill this season and will be donating £10 to charity for every goal and Man of the Match performance. £30 in total for this game.
**Full-time: Ashton Athletic 2-1 Steeton**.

**Match Preview**
This Saturday, Ashton Athletic will host Steeton in what promises to be an intriguing North West Counties Division One North clash at Brocstedes Park. Despite a poor start to the season, Steeton have found their feet in recent weeks, going unbeaten in five of their last six matches (three wins and two draws). Currently sitting in 14th place, the West Yorkshire side will be looking to continue their upward trajectory.
Ashton Athletic, on the other hand, are flying high after a superb run of form. Three consecutive wins across all competitions have seen the Yellows rise to 8th place in the table, with their sights now set on pushing for the playoff spots. Momentum is on their side, and they’ll be aiming to make it four wins in a row on Saturday.
While it’s still early days in the season, these are the types of fixtures that could define a campaign. Manager Jay Foulds will be urging his team to maintain their focus and build on their impressive recent performances. A competitive encounter is on the cards, with Steeton eager to upset the hosts' rhythm and claim valuable points on the road.
Though this fixture was originally scheduled to be at Steeton’s Marley Stadium, the match has been switched to Brocstedes Park due to the Keighley Show taking place. The weather forecast looks promising, with a sunny afternoon expected, making it the perfect opportunity for fans to come down, enjoy the game, and back their team. Kick-off is at 3 pm.
Admission prices are set at £6 for adults, £3 for concessions, and £1 for under-16s. Juniors accompanied by adults can enjoy the game for free, making it an affordable outing for families. Additionally, Wigan Athletic and other season ticket holders are eligible for the £3 concession price.
Please note, it's cash only at the turnstile, while the bar and kitchen accept card and contactless payments.
