Update: Ashton Athletic put on one of their best displays of the season away at Euxton Villa in the 2nd Round of the Lancs Trophy.
It was 0-0 at half time and it looked like the tie could go either way with both sides having opportunities in the first 45 but The Yellows came out with all guns blazing in the 2nd half.
The first goal (47 mins) was an excellent strike from Sam Houghton 25yards out and into the bottom corner, the Villa keeper left flat footed.
6 minutes later (53 mins) Max Rogers cut in from the left and hit a looping shot from outside the box that sailed over the keeper into the top corner.
The 3rd goal (68 mins) again was a cracker as Zach Conway scored with a superb strike from outside the box giving the keeper no chance.
Euxton got a late consolation (80 mins) but the game was won by then although it could have been closer but for a fabulous save from Joe Smith tipping the ball over the bar from close range.
All in all it was an excellent display from Ashton and great to see the quality of football played and all the players performing at a high level. Long may it continue.
