Ashton Athletic secured a hard-fought and well-earned victory at Brocstedes Park, edging out promotion-chasing Holker Old Boys in a thrilling 1-0 battle.

Despite a slight delay to kick-off due to Holker’s travel issues, the visitors showed no signs of sluggishness, flying out of the blocks and immediately putting Ashton under pressure. The early exchanges saw Holker dominate possession, moving the ball quickly and testing Ashton's defensive resolve. However, The Yellows stood firm, producing a disciplined and resilient display across the pitch.

Breakthrough Against the Run of Play
While Holker had the better of the opening stages, it was Ashton who struck first—and in some style. The breakthrough came in the 39th minute, courtesy of a moment of magic from Jack Smith. The winger burst down the left flank, gliding past defenders before delivering a perfect cross into the box. In-form striker Dek Hill met it with deadly precision, rifling the ball into the roof of the net, leaving the Holker goalkeeper with no chance.

Resolute Defensive Display
The second half continued in the same vein—a fierce, evenly contested affair with both sides creating chances. However, Ashton's defensive unit stood tall, repelling every Holker attack with sheer determination and discipline. Callum Wilson was immense at the heart of the defence, winning aerial duels and breaking up countless attacks. Full-backs Ethan Pearce and Luke Crompton were equally impressive, while goalkeeper Joe Beswick commanded his area superbly, making key saves and showing sharp decision-making under pressure.

Player of the Match – Callum Wilson
While it was a complete team effort, Callum Wilson was the standout performer, earning the Player of the Match accolade for his leadership, composure, and defensive excellence in a game where fine margins made the difference.

A Vital Three Points
This victory not only ends Ashton’s difficult run of results but also serves as a statement win against one of the league’s top sides. With confidence restored, The Yellows will now look to build momentum as they approach the crucial final stretch of the season.

Match Preview: North West Counties Division One North | Saturday, February 22, 2025 | 2:00 PM Kick-Off | Brocstedes Park

Another promotion contender arrives at Brocstedes Park this weekend as Ashton Athletic prepare to take on Holker Old Boys in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter. The visitors, making the long trip from Barrow-in-Furness, currently sit in 4th place in the North West Counties Division One North and will be looking to strengthen their playoff push.

The Opposition: Holker Old Boys
Holker come into the fixture in strong form, having picked up four wins, one draw, and just one defeat in their last six matches. Their recent performances place them 5th in the form table, proving they are a team with momentum as the season enters its crucial final months.

Ashton’s Challenge
For Ashton Athletic, it's been a challenging spell, but recent performances have shown plenty of promise. Last weekend’s spirited display against league leaders Nelson, despite ending in defeat, was evidence that the squad is more than capable of competing with the division’s best. With confidence growing, it’s surely only a matter of time before results start turning in The Yellows' favour.

A big performance will be needed on Saturday to overcome a talented Holker side, but with home support behind them, Ashton will be eager to make a statement t and get back to winning ways.
